Family Scouting - Welcoming Girls to the Pack!

Post date: May 24, 2018 7:19:41 PM

As I hope you have heard, the BSA, which is the organization that runs Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, announced last year that they are expanding the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs to include girls for the first time. Our parents and leaders have decided that we'll welcome girls into our pack starting this Fall.

As a community of parents, Pack leaders, and volunteers, we are in favor of welcoming girls into the Pack because we feel the fun we have and the skills and values we learn are just as valuable to girls as they are to boys. We have spoken to our chartered organization representative and have his approval on behalf of The Elks. Provided there is sufficient interest, we'll have some girl dens forming in the fall. Note that there will be separate dens for boys and girls, and we'll form dens for the girls based on how many want to join next year. If you know of any families with girls who are interested in joining please have them contact me.

Let us know if you have any questions, or see the official resources here:

On a related note, while Cub Scouts will still be called Cub Scouts, as announced this week Boy Scouts will now be known as Scouts BSA, or simply Scouts. At the older age level there will be girls' Troops and boys' Troops; they will *not* be mixed. Current Troops will remain all boys, and they can choose start a partner Girls troop if they so desire.

Welcome girls!
