Hi pack -- I'd like to welcome our new pack Hiking Co-ordinator, Tiger dad Dallas Wisehaupt!
Dallas has designed a hike this Saturday specially for our pack. We'll be hitting three peaks in San Francisco in an up-and-down hike of about 5 miles.
Please note this is a ONE-WAY hike. You'll need to arrange for dropoff/pickup or use Dallas' excellent public transit info below.

Hello Pack,
We are going to have another hike this Saturday, Feb 22nd, at 1pm where we will tackle 3 of the hills of San Francisco. We will start at the Grattan Playground (1180 Stanyan @ Alma, SF), climb through the trees of Mt. Sutro, cross over to the bare tops of Twin Peaks, make our way over to the top of Mt. Davidson, and then work our way to the West Portal Playground. The full route will be just over 5 miles and will include lots of elevation change. This is a one-way hike but the start and finish points are located near ample public transit. More info below.
I will be at the Grattan playground at ~12:45pm and we'll depart at 1pm.
Please pack a large snack and lots of water. It is supposed to be sunny on Saturday and there is little to no shade from when we leave the trees of Mt. Sutro until we find the trees of Mt. Davidson. There will be the possibility to restock your food/water supplies at the shops when we cross Portola after Twin Peaks.
DRIVING / PARKING
There is limited parking near the Grattan Playground (1180 Stanyan @ Alma, SF). If you do decide to drive and park near the start, I would suggest parking closer to Parnassus or Carl. This will be better for transit on the return. There is a little more parking available near the end of the route at West Portal Playground on either Lenox Way or Claremont Blvd. You could then use the transit directions below to get to the start.
TRANSIT DIRECTIONS
Grattan Playground is best served by the following transit lines: 6, 43, N, 71
Just depart the bus or train at the Stanyan stop and walk south to Alma. The playground is just down Alma on your right.
If you are parking at the West Portal Playground and taking transit to the start, the easiest route is to take a train from West Portal (any inbound K, L, M, T) one stop to Forest Hill. When you exit the Forest Hill station, cross the road (Laguna Honda Boulevard) and catch a 43 Masonic bound for Marina District. Depart the 43 at Stanyan and walk 2 blocks south to Alma. The playground is just down Alma on your right.
Muni fares are $2 for adults and $.75 for children 5-17. The estimated trip time from West Portal to Alma (assuming a healthy wait between the train and 43) is 28 minutes.
