September 2014 pack update

Post date: Sep 5, 2014 10:16:03 AM

Hi pack -- Welcome to a new Cub year! I'm excited to see you again on Friday night.

Here's a quick update of what's going on this month.

NEW CUBMASTER

This year I have two boys in the pack -- Ben is a Webelos 2 and Braden is an incoming Tiger. With that in mind, the pack leaders asked Bear dad John Nay to take over the role of Cubmaster, and John graciously accepted. Please join me in congratulating John and pledging to do everything we can to support him. Thank you for allowing me the pleasure and honor of serving you.

FULL UNIFORMS

Rumor has it there will be a special treat at the pack meeting for all Cubs who appear in full uniform. Please remind your Cub to wear his uniform with pride -- shirt tucked in, hat straight, neckerchief rolled tight.

NEW RECRUITS

I love the fact that so many of you have contacted me about friends and classmates interested in joining our pack.

I'll send out a welcome message for new families this weekend. Please forward it to anyone you think might be interested.

This year our New Family Orientation Night will be Thursday, Sept. 18. That same night we are planning our annual night hike through Stern Grove ending in a special treat -- a campfire at Pine Lake with s'mores!

At the pack meeting tonight, the leaders' attention will be focused on organizing the returning kids. I expect it will be a little chaotic. New families are certainly welcome to come check out the meeting, but please explain to them that the leaders will not have as much time as they would like to give new Cubs a proper welcome.

ANNUAL DUES

In addition to the generous support of the Elks Lodge #3, our pack raises money by fundraising and asking its members for dues. We use the funds to pay for badges and awards, for training of the adult leaders, for our annual rechartering fee to the BSA council, for supplies, and to pay deposits on pack activities.

For the upcoming year the pack leaders have agreed to ask for dues in the amount of $70 for each returning Cub and $80 for new Cubs. If you do not wish to receive Boy's Life magazine, you may subtract $12 from that amount.

Please bring a check to the pack meeting to give to me or your den leader.

As always, if this amount is a hardship for your family, let me know and I will treat it with complete confidence. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the benefits of Scouting.

Thanks,

Mike Conte
