San Bruno Mountain summit hike this Sunday

Post date: Nov 18, 2013 9:56:14 PM

Hi pack -- This Sunday your son will have a chance to conquer a local peak and add another 3.5 miles to his hiking total!

San Bruno Mountain is the giant, barren hill to the south with the radio antennas on top. The 360-degree view from the top is great.

There is a moderately easy single-track trail from the parking area to the peak. To give you an idea, I hiked this trail with Ben when he was 3 years old. He whined and complained but finished it.

A more complete description of the hike is here:

We'll start hiking at 11:30am, so please plan to be there by 11:15am to find parking and get ready. We should be done by 2pm.

Parking costs $6 here because it's a state park. There most likely will not be a ranger but you put your money in an envelope into a box, so bring exact change.

It's supposed to rain this week but clear up by Saturday, so wear shoes that you can get muddy. Bring lots of water, a pack lunch, and maybe a snack to share!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From 101 South exit #429B Cow Palace/Third Street. Drive south on Bayshore about 2 miles, turn right on Guadalupe Canyon Parkway and drive uphill about 2 miles to the park entrance on the right side of the road.

OR from 280 South exit at Sullivan Ave./Eastmoor in Daly City and take two rights onto Washington St. Go two blocks and take a slight left onto San Pedro. San Pedro turns into East Market St. which turns into Guadalupe Canyon Parkway. Drive east to the park entrance on the left side of the road about 3 miles from 280.
